Free House Cleaning for People Going Through Cancer

Cancer treatment takes a lot out of a person. Keeping up with the housework should not be one more thing to worry about. Through Cleaning for a Reason, Ms. Mop-It Cleaning Services donates professional house cleaning to patients in our community, at no cost to them or their families.

Cleaning for a Reason is a nonprofit that has connected people living with cancer to local cleaning companies since 2006. It works with cleaning companies across the United States and Canada, and it is part of ISSA Charities, a 501(c)(3) organization.

Our founder comes from a background in the medical field. It shapes how we clean every home, with a focus on safety, hygiene and privacy, and we bring that same care to every Cleaning for a Reason visit.

Outside Our Service Area? You Can Still Apply.

Cleaning for a Reason is a much wider program than Ms. Mop-It. It works with participating cleaning partners across the United States and Canada, and every patient applies through the same official application, wherever they live. Ms. Mop-It provides the cleanings for patients in our local service area. If you or your patient lives somewhere else, apply anyway: Cleaning for a Reason will look for a participating partner near the patient's home.

Who Can Apply

Patients can apply for themselves, or someone can apply on their behalf.

Patients

Fill out the online application yourself. If you have questions about the program in our area, call us at 267-575-4569.

Family, Friends and Caregivers

You can apply for someone you love. Please ask them first and make sure they would like the service, then fill out the application with their information.

Doctors, Nurses and Social Workers

Oncology social workers, nurse navigators and doctors can apply for a patient, with the patient's permission. Please share this page with patients and families who could use the help.

How to Apply

Applications go through Cleaning for a Reason's official website. It is free to apply.

Talk With the Patient

If you are applying for someone else, ask them first. Cleaning for a Reason only accepts applications the patient has agreed to.

Fill Out the Application

Complete the patient application on the Cleaning for a Reason website. Use the button below to go straight to it.

Get Matched

Cleaning for a Reason reviews each application and matches the patient with a local cleaning partner. You can check the status of an application online.

Cleaning for a Reason is an independent nonprofit. It reviews every application and makes every match, based on which cleaning partners are available near the patient, so it cannot promise a match for every application. Ms. Mop-It is one of its cleaning partners. Learn more at cleaningforareason.org.

A Clean Home. A Little Peace. A Very Personal Reason.

For me, being part of Cleaning for a Reason is deeply personal.

I was only five years old when my father died from a very rare cancer. He was just 36. Although I was too young to understand everything cancer would take from our family, that loss has stayed with me throughout my life.

Over the years, cancer touched my family again. I watched my grandmother pass away from lung cancer, and my mother-in-law faced thyroid cancer and chose not to pursue treatment. Along with my background in the medical field, these experiences have shaped the compassion I bring to people facing illness—and my desire to offer something that can make their days a little easier.

For a long time, I wanted to find a way to help. Then someone very dear to me helped me find it.

About 14 years ago, a woman who would become one of my dearest longtime clients needed help cleaning her home before a major surgery for her cancer treatment. She had called several cleaning companies, but no one was able to help. I stepped in and stayed until around 11 that night, making sure her home was ready for her return.

I wanted her to have one less thing to worry about. I helped her then, and I am still helping her to this day.

Recently, she found herself battling cancer again. In a packet from her oncologist, she discovered information about Cleaning for a Reason and shared it with me. After all those years, the woman I had been able to help became the person who connected me with a way to help so many others. The opportunity I had been searching for finally had a name.

Today, Ms. Mop-It proudly partners with Cleaning for a Reason to provide free house cleanings for patients undergoing cancer treatment.

When appointments, treatments, and uncertainty begin to take over everyday life, even ordinary household chores can feel overwhelming. Being able to lift that responsibility, even for a little while, means so much to me. A freshly cleaned home can offer a place to rest, a little breathing room, and a sense of peace during a time when so much feels beyond your control.

Every cleaning is a way to honor the people I love and extend that care to another family. This commitment is shared by our entire Ms. Mop-It team. Our technicians take pride in bringing comfort and care into each home, knowing their work can help lighten someone’s burden during a difficult time.

My hope is that when someone walks into their clean home, they feel cared for. That they can settle in, take a breath, and put their energy toward rest and recovery.

It is a small comfort we can offer during an incredibly difficult time—and it is a privilege to offer it.

With care,
Janine, Owner of Ms. Mop-It
